ABOUT THE ARTIST

Jim Anthony’s unabashed glimpses of Americana often contain the stony attribute of his wry humor and the moral weight of his conviction that the artist is, first and foremost, a communicator and that a story should be told or message conveyed. His philosophy is one which speaks of a direct and unimpeded conveyance of an idea.

Anthony studied Design under Buckminster Fuller at Southern Illinois University (SIU). One of his first artworks captured top prize in SIU’s FIRST ANNUAL UNDERGRADUATE ART SHOW. The painting, the US Male, currently hangs in the SIU Student Center. His work has since appeared in numerous juried competitions including Chicago Artist Guild's ANNUAL JURIED EXHIBITION, Parkersburg (WV) Art Center’s REALISM ‘96 Show, Manhattan Arts International's 1996 FIFTH ANNUAL ART COMPETITION earning an Award of Excellence, San Diego Art Institute’s ANNUAL INTERNATIONAL  SHOW (twice); Southwestern Artist Association's ANNUAL AWARDS JURIED EXHIBITION (twice), placed First in Chicago’s Foremost Liquor Stores’ ANNUAL WINE ART COMPETITION, San Diego Museum of Art Artist Guild's CENTENNIAL MEMBER'S EXHIBITION in 2015 and their recent 2023 SPRING EXHIBITION; Recently exhibiting in the San Diego Studio Door Gallery's "Works of Excellence" show 2023; and currently in Art Fluent's "Urban" on-line exhibit Online Art Gallery | URBAN | Virtual Art Exhibit (art-fluent.com
Beyond commercial freelancing, corporate assignments and work with the US Navy, Anthony went on to exhibit his work in Chicago, Denver, San Diego and in the Phoenix/Scottsdale area. His work can be found in many public and private collections including ships at sea. His work has literally circled the globe.
He is or has been affiliated with the Artist Guild of Chicago, San Diego Museum of Art's Artist Guild, the San Diego Art Institute, Southwestern Artist Association, the Pacific Art League, Scottsdale Artist's League, and Knickerbocker Artists. Presently, Mr. Anthony resides and works in San Diego.
